You have to be a marathon runner to work in this kitchen- work triangle is way to big. also any mess made is in full view of living room. Another criticism: what good is an outdoor garden in upstate NY, Why would you want to walk down/up stairs to a working garden when probability of having hands full is high. On a positive note: lighting looks excellent and materials used in cabinets and counters appear to be the type for easy clean up and good durability. Wish something was mentioned on type of flooring. Don't mean to be negative but I think if you are going to use the word "intelligent" in a caption, then use the word to convey the thought in a more pragmatic fashion rather than in some obtuse philosophy of what a kitchen should convey.

The kitchen is a little plain and stretched, but the fact that the home has a roof garden, even in upstate NY is great. I mean its one of the five points of architecture! and everything a home can do to A) cut down on cooling costs and B) enable its occupants to grow a fair amount of food locally is awesome. The stairs shouldnt be a problem either, they force one to maintain at least some amount of activity in their life / not that the architect is lazy!

I am curious as to the location of this house in Upsate NY. Does anyone know? I think the gardening idea is great but am wondering where you can do this Upstate.

I must agree with Rick Moreno. The kitchen ergonomics are not terribly "intelligent." A different design could allow cooking for one for many, for catering, without having to move things about. As for the location of the garden, my geographic location (Ontario, Canada) is similar and I would much rather just walk out the door, than have to negotiate stairs with my hands full, especially when the wind blows or when it rains. Come to think of it, I've just described my own kitchen design! The series itself provokes thought and best practices...keep it up! David Daniels
