Hundreds of booths are set up at Salone Satellite, where young designers from all over the world congregate to share their wares. Dwell editors always make a special pilgrimage to check out the latest creations, and get a glimpse of tomorrow's talent. -
Now in its fiftieth year, Salone Internazionale del Mobile has launched the career of many a young designer. At their own expense, each entrant travels to Milan and decorates their own booth, displaying their creations in hopes of finding a producer. -
Barcelona-based firm Mermelada Estudio, comprised of industrial designers Juan Miguel Juarez, Laura Blasco, and Alex Estevez, conceived and showcased a collection entitled Weekend Objects. One of our favorites of the bunch was Druida, a BBQ grill with an elegant body and an equally winsome grill pattern. -
Designer Takaaki Tani, or t/m, based in Tokyo, displayed his plywood collection, entitled Wafft. The stool, shown here, boasts a sinuous form and a minimal amount of material. -
One of the first sights one encounters upon entering the 2011 Salone Satellite is Ultra Gamma, an installation created by Ezri Tarazi that is based on the concept of a frequency, undiscovered as of yet by humankind, that reveals the internal structure and motivation of the human body. The piece is made up of five conical structures, each more than fifteen feet high, that are illuminated from within by pre-programmed LED light configurations. Judging from the amount of legs we saw poking out from the bottom of the cones, Ultra Gamma was a very successful experiment. -
Big Bounce, a new release from Jonah Takagi, features an FSC-certified oak base augmented by a laser-cut, powder-coated steel. -
An illuminating find—Greenhouse, a mouth-blown vitrine glass lamp by Helsinki–based designer Mari Isopahkala. -
Japanese designer Yota Kakuda, who has worked for Ross Lovegrove and who creates products for MUJI, debuted a collection entitled Tenon. Consisting of timber pieces assembled utilizing tenon joints and angular construction methodology, the offerings include a step stool, a bench, side tables and chairs. -
Finnish design collective Kaamos, which means 'polar night', draws inspiration from the summer cottage traditions of Finland—simple, down-to-earth creations that celebrate craftsmanship and Scandinavian simplicity. Here we see porcelain-and-silicone containers by Vesa Kattelus, intended to house herbs and spices in the kitchen. -
The three principals of Innovo Design, Christoph John, Jovana Bogdanovic, and Zhang Lei, met in Milan in 2009. Together they launched a company, and this year they announced their collection for Salone Satellite entitled 'Future Tradition'. Shown here is the Paper Chair, which is created by gluing layers of handmade paper together, much like a traditional paper umbrella. -

The Corchea table, by Argentinian designer Federico Churba, is a pleasing interpretation of a side table. Available in three sizes and two colors. -
Another collection from Kaamos, the porcelain Feed Me Pitchers by Vesa Kattelus, have a yawning aperture and a variety of body shapes. -

Nesting Tables
Designer Paui Loebach introduced these nesting tables at Salone Satellite in Milan and Areaware picked them up for production, presenting them at ICFF as part of their new 2009 collection. We think those sharp shades of green are positively brilliant, and just right to perk up any room of the house.
