I learned during our kitchen renovation that it really is a full-time job. If you want it done right and according to your vision, and not that of your contractor, be available. Make sure every last detail is planned ahead of time. We didn't discuss the drawer guides ahead of time and I ended up not getting what I wanted because the guildes that I wanted were undermount and that required different construction of the drawers. Lastly, it is your money and resources, so make sure that you are happy with each part of the whole.
