A Sliding Countertop that Brings Minimalist Elegance to Any Kitchen
Using technology found in yachts — where light-weight, high-performance, and beautiful design are a must— Minimal USA's Sliding Tops conceal cooking fixtures to effortlessly produce a sleek, modern kitchen aesthetic.
Explore their products in these three projects, including Tadao Ando's 152 Elizabeth apartment building in New York City's Nolita neighborhood.
The interiors and finishes of the building were designed and selected by Gabellini Sheppard. The rich finish on the surrounding eucalyptus cabinets complements the Amani marble. The kitchen spout can be quickly pushed down to make way for the countertop. However, the Slidng Top does more than conceal fixtures and fittings.
Minimal USA's islands with Sliding Tops also contain a number of storage units within the sides of the kitchen island. For this Verve Sliding Top model—located in an apartment designed by ODA in New York's Flatiron neighborhood—the storage handles only register as subtle horizontal channels. The drawers, with their silent soft-closing mechanisms and minimalist feel, are elevated to the level of finely-crafted furniture.
