I was once told, "If you ever go to the Venice Biennale, you will see all of the architecture that the world will be seeing for the next two years." So here I am, at the opening of the 2010 Biennale, drinking in two years' worth of architectural innovations and provocations and storing it for the future. The first of our slideshows covers my encounters at the Arsenale—and will surely quench the thirst of your eyeballs.

"The Forty Part Motet," or an installation almost identical to it was shown at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati 4 or 5 years ago. Interesting....but not new.
Ah, yes - good point, Bernard. The piece was performed first in 2001, and Cardiff had actually been experimenting with this type of installation since 1991, starting with a piece for 16 female voices. But this year, it was exhibited for the first time at a Biennale.
The works of R&Sie(n) was not exactly Grotesque...Do you think that 8 kg of Uranium is Grotesque or Paranoïd.
