As head of retail development and legal counsel leasing for American Apparel, Michael Pozner spends a lot of time sorting out the details when a new venue is chosen for the brand’s purposes. But, he admits, “I’m not a big architectural design guy.” So when he decided to reinvent the diminutive Manhattan studio in which he lives and works, Pozner tapped Darrick Borowski of Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture with whom he’d collaborated on multiple American Apparel stores. Pozner explains what happened when, architecturally speaking, he took his work home with him.

LOVE IT! Lots of great ideas matched with great execution.
Amazing clever use of a very small space.........in very expensive NYcity.
Simply fabulous! I... I love the drawers that were made from the stairs, & I love the bedroom. The living room / office is very practical. I think most people would be happier with less, I know I am. I live in a house that has 240 square feet in total! The 120 sq feet down stairs has a kitchen, bath, & living room. Upstairs is where I sleep & have my computer. I'm very comfortable & cozy. Good Go!
"Though he eschewed a handrail, preferring a cleaner look, Pozner says that the slipperiness of the stairs 'remains a work in progress. We had grooves, but they hurt my feet.' The pair are now looking into heavy-duty felt treads." Wait, what? No, really. Are you kidding me? I've spent the last twenty minutes trying to figure out something witty/scathing/realistic to say about this one. I mean, I love Dwell and the awesomeness it brings me almost every day, but really... did I just read that? It's just ridiculous. A perfect example of form over function.
man. this is rad.
Brilliant!
Its nice that New Yorkers like it there - an are content to pay a kings ransom for dormitory conditions. We were doing more careful design as students in the 80's in architecture school. The overuse of drywall is becoming quite sad.
Great place. The kitchen is very cool but I gotta say the stairs off the bedroom is double-bad. Stepping off onto unsure footing the first thing out of bed is not the smartest, and the drawers in the stairs while cool in concept are just asking for trouble should one be open even a crack - its good-morning faceplant. But the layout, despite the injury-inducing bedroom approach, is really great use of space and that kitchens is where I'd wanna be. (Put in a handrail for Pete's sake! :)
Really great! Excellently conceived and executed. Liked it a lot.
Very beautifully designed! i have home as far as same to this! so i would like to redesign it like it :) thanks for the idea!
Awesome!! I would trade all my space for THAT space!
Does anyone know where that desk chair is from? I want one, or something similar. Thanks
