Facing tight building codes and an even tighter space, Karen White and David MacNaughtan needed an architect who could turn lemons into lemonade. Donald Chong devised a refreshing solution.

If one of your New Year's resolutions was to keep in better touch with family and friends, consider doing it in style the old fashioned way (you know—with paper, a pen, and an actual stamp?).
I wish I could see this cool new pop-up shop in person, but alas, it's in Manhattan and only until October 31. It's the first (albeit temporary) retail store for fashion designer Richard Chai, set…
Waking up is hard to do. Running late is no fun. Looking up to realize you just watched a few too many episodes of MST3K is a little disconcerting. But the sting of these time-based quandaries…

Slim but highly funcitional. Aesthically a real winner too. Sure beats the fat McMansions popping up all over the place.
It is a pleasant compilation of space, material and function. Hopefully this is a seed that is nutured and takes root in the vast plains of traditional development and building practices.
Smart, very smart...
All of it is most fitting. We bow to those with visson aka guts. A patina of sorts for the brick. And white would speak to its adjoining elders. Dwell can make a path for all to enjoy. Thanks............
Would love to know what the empty lot cost to buy in the first place. You'd be amazed at how much people charge in Toronto for tiny lots with seemingly no possibility for development. Great to see you've made this space a gem.
More of these please!
I want one too!!!

Fantastic in-fill idea. Very smart. Many slim lots are in for inventive developement.
This is a great utilization of space and is the vision I have for many urban communities with small spaces. I would love to see a cost analysis of the project. Great Work!!
it is Predock's Venice Beach House in Toronto

Thanks Dwell for featuring this wonderful home. We live 3 houses down the street and it's amazing the privacy that the house has despite the big glass windows at the front. A fantastic house for fabulous neighbours.
