I would like to see dwell have a box with each feature, home design, a green alternative construction, etc.to show the cost per square foot of the finished product. Comparative costs would be helpful, too. Regarding terms, using the term 'passive' seems diminuitive. There must be a more positive term other than 'passive' or the overused 'green'.

This is a beautiful house indeed. It seems as though it would be easy to maintain as well. I'm reminded of the other house down in Argentina that was done so beautifully too. In Latin America they seem to be on to something.

Jeremy, do you mean it reminds you of Alejandro Sticotti’s house from the July/August 09 issue? http://www.dwell.com/articles/net-assets.html

I wish there were photographer credits on the slideshows. I am interested in who shot the photos.

"On to something in Latin America"? Ahh, but after living in Mexico, Peru and Guatemala, these houses are the exception not the norm. One or two houses that obviously are special does not make a country or region. Sadly, most areas of Mexico are urban planning nightmares with faulty construction and zoning to boot. Beautiful house, though. Unfortunately it will probably be a target of crime. When you build something like this in Mexico, especially in a small town, there usually is a lot of envy and jealousy amongst the neighbors. The owners must have good relations with key people (police, politicians, others) in the town. Simply going to a picturesque town and building your dream will not suffice.

What are the beds made out of (the kids' bunk beds) --- it looks like concrete???

to piedro. most houses regardless of the country are not designed by architects. in regards to your comment. you have a very distorted and negative view of latin america. good design has been evident long before this house was built. you should look up luis barragan and ricardo legorreta good design is alive and well in mexico with and without "good relations"

Unobtrusively distinct from its neighbors, a weekend house in Mexico assimilates the colors of the surrounding landscape on surfaces of glass, steel, and concrete.
