I'm nagged by a question, after reading "Nature Nurtured" (Jeremy Hanson), Pp. 94-101 in your March '09 issue. The home featured seems to be a 2007 version of the home my husband & I visited in Dunedin in 2007, which had been built I believe in 2006. The two lack a few minor details (and some materials) in being identical. If the same architect designed both homes, why didn't he tell your writer about the earlier home, which is made with local wood and stone (none of them "cartoon"-oriented). Could you clear this up? I was under the impression that the earlier home was designed & built (the wood by hand) by the owner. The home I mention is Kaimata Lodge, Otago Peninsula, Dunedin NZ. Surely there's a reason for two nearly-identical homes within Kiwi shouting distance... I don't understand why the arguably prettier one wasn't mentioned. Perhaps Mr. Hanson could check this website - http://www.kaimatanz.com/index.pasp - to see a photo of the older home.

Dear Nagged, I see very few similarities between the two aforementioned houses and would be very surprised if they were conceived by the same architect. To my eye and sensibilities the Lodge is careful in it's pleasantness but there's very little in the design that is innovative or personal. Whereas the Nature Nurture house is truly modern, bold and unobtrusive in the landscape, all at the same time. I would say the latter is arguably the prettier house. Thanks for the opportunity to make the comparison. I do enjoy the discussion.

Oh, I love this. I feel like I just went on vacation (trying to not be jealous). :-) The kids' names are precious (and all can be found in American cartoons...?).
