Does anyone know the name of the plants in the foreground, the yellowish frizzy ones

I looking for information about architect Jim Charlton. His name is included in several articles about this subdivision, but I have not been able to get further than that. He was introduced to author Christopher Isherwood in 1948, and is mentioned in his writings. This was a gay friendship, but I have no idea if that orientation continued. I am working on establishing a "gay architects" section for the Quatrefoil Library, a GLBT library in St. Paul, MN. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Harold Zellman, who has done extensive research towards a history of Crestwood Hills, interviewed Jim Charlton before he died. Harold can be reached at his office in Venice, CA.
