This is an amazing house. I can't imagine waking up and seeing this!
As a 5 Element Feng Shui practitioner I love to see houses built this way. Minimalistic, using natural pieces along with man made, clean & compact. This would be considered a "metal" element house in most ways, especially if the back is to the west. I would add pc's for the other elements, fire, earth, water & wood to assure proper balance. I love the wood stump as I use pc's like this often, & suggest a live plant for the wood element flowing energy. Eath pc's are large boulders, or fossiled pc's of flagstone are nice. Water fountains for money, & something red for the fire aspect, like the blow up pool! Too cute. Beautiful! Sonja Runar "A House Whisperer"
Deceptive Title. Nice House. The title is deceptive, the house is not in Joshua Tree, CA, but the article title reads as if it is. Given, the land contains a Joshua Tree or two. The house is in Pioneertown, CA which is about 20 minutes from the center of Joshua Tree, CA and 30 minutes to the Joshua Tree, CA entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. Add on another 5-15 minutes depending on the actual Pioneertown location of this house. Going West to East in between Pioneertown and Joshua Tree is Yucca Valley, CA where you will find more Joshua trees than in Joshua Tree or Pioneertown. Unfortunately, YV is over fun with WalMart, Starbucks, etc. and desert yuppies. This is just my observation as a Marine who lives east of all towns mentioned - 29 Palms, CA
Hi Atom. Thanks for your comment. As you can see above, we listed the actual location as Pioneertown, California.
@Amanda:Thank you for your reply. I did read the article and read where it is in Pioneertown. I still believe the title is deceptive, that's all. Though, is that what the residents have named their house? I'm just a cantankerous desert dweller and geography buff.
Love this article - and I love the itHouse modular product even more. Thanks for sharing the gorgeous photographs! We just featured it on EcoSalon (and, of course, linked to Dwell): Thanks!
Interesting home- It doesn't keep the heat and the cold out so I wonder about the rattlesnakes and scorpions.
Great narrative + house - who wrote article ?
What has been done to solve the "very hot in summer and very cold in winter" problems? My disclaimer is that I come into this article quite late, as it's January 2011 now. But my interest in these problems is still keen. ScaiacS
