Great house! Nice to see folks using a good old-fashioned clothes line.
What is the courtyard paver material?
Wonderful to learn of the creativity, professionalism, and innovativeness of this young couple. Congratulations on the recognition of your accomplishment, Christine and Peter. Continued success to you and Studio Junction,Inc.
Love the courtyard. Would be a great place to let the kids play without having to worry about them wandering off or dealing with traffic. Love everything about the house, except the stairs with storage drawers. Those are a menace. Also, does the built-in child's bed (the one with the movable panel to the parents' room) extend somehow? What are they going to do when that kids is too big for the bed?
Courtyard is lovely -- a lot like the little house on Ways Lane, a few blocks north and east. But I doubt those stairs will turn out to be a good thing. It's hard building stairs that don't sag, and the kickplate is critical to their strength. Once they sag (and they will), the drawers won't fit. In the meantime, the first time someone leaves one open and someone comes down not paying attention is going to only be comical if they're very lucky. And finally, over time they'll fill with dirt from the stair traffic themselves... at least the designer has inflicted it on himself and not someone else...
I like this. Simple, elegant, yet strong, private.
Excellent house! Beautiful full use of space and elegant simplicity of form with natural colour and texture while maintaining separation of uses plus planned further development of the property - if needed. It is exceptionally well thought-out. Hey 'omnivore' you are a killjoy... looking for too many things to eat maybe? If you see carefully the shoes are IN the steps you so adamantly deride. So dirt etc will ONLY go that far IF they are kep on inside - VERY unlikely. As for the potentially sagging risers - LOOK at the thickness of the step itself and EXTRA support of the upright. How do YOU know the '1st time' an accident will happen? It may be the 137th... or most likely the family will take due care and close the drawers or they could be self-closers. The kids are young and pliable, small and minimal height to drop only once so relatively harmless as the drawers and they are close to the bottom. Worst comes to it - the drawers are sealed in 20 years. Wow that thinking didn't hurt a bit. More fibre in your diet...
... err 'omnivore' - please leave your shoes & teeth at the door - simpler. Best ...
I thought the stair storage was a good use of space, but agree that eventually someone will leave something out of the drawer and on the stairs and someone else will trip and fall. Murphy's law will prevail.
I hope they have a guard dog. That's a lot of glass and open spaces for that cruddy crack neighbourhood. Plus the railway tracks are running so close, does the beautiful house shake?
