In 2009, just as architectural designer Chris Greenawalt and his wife, Danielle, completed remodeling their Seattle home, Danielle received word that she was heading to Boston for her job as a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company. They closed the door of their Washington home, handed over the keys, and drove cross-country to Massachusetts. The door they opened there presented another much-needed remodeling opportunity.

Which Trespa product was used for the countertop? I looked at their Virtuon and Athalon products, and I don't see recommendations for using them as counter surfaces. They have TopLab for laboratory counters, which seems to be the only product with colour throughout (the rest are surface-only), but not in the colour I see in the slideshow. I'm guessing it's the Virtuon ... but then how did the designers colour the cut edges?
Great remodel in general, but hardly useful to have to climb a ladder every day to get to the spices! And how soon will they get tired of pushing that ladder back and forth to move around it.
Colin.. I did some initial R&D and the Trespa is like a laminate so you will have the black solid color when cut.. and yes you can use it as a counter top if you go to their web site you can see even used in the medical field.. interesting stuff..

Great looking kitchen remodel. I'm in the midst of remodeling my mid-century house the square footage is 1200 , please I'd like the manufacturers name of the kitchen faucet you've used, it's very cool.
Thank you for commenting on our project! Colin, the product is Trespa Virtuon. It comes in 6'x12' sheets and you can cut it yourself and finish edges with an orbital sander. We actually used their mid-grey color, so the edge is a slightly darker black. Lead time was about 2 months, so be sure to plan ahead. Sondergaard, the spices are reachable without the ladder. The ladder is used for reaching cabinets above the tall cabinets where small appliances are stored. Linda, the faucet is from Cifial. The product # is 221.157.625. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions: info@bunkerworkshop.com
The cleanliness and simplicity of the kitchen is raptourous....mjw
This is a beautiful kitchen. I love the floor to ceiling cabinets and how clean and flat everything is. It gives the kitchen a vibe that is modern and stylish yet inviting. There's also a lot of counter space which is great for preparing and cooking. Its half the reason I am remodeling my kitchen! Great ideas. Thanks!
I love the combination of white cabinets and hardwood floors! The warmth of the wood counteracts the modern look of the cabinets . Which Ikea cabinets did you use? Are they the glossy type? We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we would love to use the same cabinet doors. I also like your countertops but if they take two months we may go with the Ikea options. DId you ever consider the Ikea countertops? Congratulations on your fabulous kitchen.
reading about the 'hagerty house' because i recently met the current owner, i ran across your kitchen design on dwell's website. what a great job you did. i'm trying to sell a tired ole queen anne on the south shore.......recommendations are that i install a new kitchen..........space and finances are limited..........how enticing was yours
Wow, great job. You really made this kinda sad little kitchen into something special. Love the ladder and hiddy whole for spices, makes a great focal point. I also love your ceiling in the kitchen. I am doing a renovation myself next year and worry that the open plan living, dining and kitchen area is too open and your idea might be perfect for us too.
