Great concept! Apartment dwellers can now have the luxury of penthouse living, views without being 100 stories in the air, private flower & herb garden outside their kitchen. sunbathing in private, convenient parking nearby, not down in the basement, no delays waiting for elevators. Many pluses. Not clear from the photos how access to the wooden( ?)structures/gardens sunbathing area is reached. This article was way too short considering the concepts undertaken, uniqueness of the design, visual impact, suspected cold weather problems on the open snow covered open stairways, the garden and patio areas etc. How is the snow going to be handled? The extended slide show on the internet just added to the disappointment, because there were just a few added pictures and no added content. Facts like cost to construct, rental rates possible conversion to Condominiums, features like types of AC(I see no window units so heating and AC must be centralised ), as well as details to the location and access to the funicular-style-elevator(s).

The image shown is an unfortunate choice. The images at the firm's site at are better. However, I would like to see more images of looking from the inside out.

This design may have solved some problems, but I think it will create even more, since it goes against CPTED principles of "eyes on the street" and activity at street level. This building will remove any life and activity from the public realm around it since the only way for residents to go in and out is via the parking garage. I would not like to be walking past this building by myself at night, nor live across the street from such a monolithic structure with no street level transparency (the mural is really just a band-aid for lack of consideration of the effect on the public realm). A row of retail - or perhaps non-market housing - around at the street level would have done wonders for this structure and supported best practices in urban design. The zoning is the problem, and the architecture only panders to it, rather than providing a good design solution.

I would have agreed with the comments above until I viewed the project on the BIG website. The mountain is a bit contrived but the overall concept is engaging on a number of levels. However, while privacy within the project is conventional, its views into the neighboring, transparent project are unnerving. I would surmise that the mountain residents could watch their across the street neighbors as if those neighbors lived within a large screen tv.
