Sunset District Renovation

I used to live in Sunset and know exactly how it felt with the garage/basement. This renovation changed my perception of Sunset District basements. Great great work.

I got busted in San Francisco by the building department for not having a hand rail. I mean on the side where you fall over and kill yourself. Must have slipped by them.

Hi Maura. The light on the wall is the 265 designed by Paolo Rizzatto for Flos, and the one next to the chair is the AJ Floor Lamp by Arne Jacobsen made by Design Within Reach. Click through the slideshow to see all of the furniture and fixtures identified.

I think the bookshelves are fabulous. Any chance you would share the name of the cabinet maker?

Hi Raquel. The cabinets and built-ins were designed by Kelli Franz and Seth Pare-Mayer of atelier KS (http://www.atelier-ks.com) and fabricated by San Luis Obispo-based carpenter Chris Allen, whose studio is CWA Studios. You can visit Allen's site at: http://www.cwastudios.com

The very same Chris Allen who also designed and built the 2009 Reading In Public Chair, seen here: http://thereadinginpublicproject.blogspot.com/2009/07/and-now-chair.html

Wonderful renovation. Seth is incredibly talented! Seems like this young Architect has no where to go but up. Way to go!

Beautiful renovation, I could live in it, but the photographers have done one thing that always bothers me to no end when I see it. Open bookcases like this one above the desk are nice in theory, except that one side will show the back of everything on them: the back of a clock, the unbound sides of books. Unless you do as the photographers/stagers have done here, and turn everything around when you photograph from the other side. Makes for nice photos but a bit of a cheat, IMO. I seriously doubt the homeowners flip everything around as they move from one area to the next, so I'm curious, which side gets to view the ugly on a regular basis?

What a great transformation! The before and after is quite amazing. The stair design is nice as well. I have a similar custom designed stair we built if you follow this link: http://www.bellastairs.com/products/straight/10/ Maybe next time we can collaborate designs! Great job!
