Forbo countertops are made of natural linoleum, radiant heating sits under the concrete floors, and all the landscaping was done with low-water and native plants.
C'mon, $91 sq. ft. sounds great, but how many square feet is this house. Give the rest of us some actual concrete insight to what the heck is going on here. Every house review/spotlight should have a standard table of sq. footage, cost, materials, savings, expenses, # of rooms, etc. How can I build a $91 square foot house? Does that include any plumbing? Specifics are pretty important if you want this movement to move and your mag to sell.
Where insulation was needed around window and door frames, instead of using the usual pink fiberglass they employed a cotton insulation, a denim industry by-product made up of trimmings that Vigil describes as having a texture “just like a Q-tip.
thank you
In response to Charles Foley's questions. The house is just under 3,000 SF. The price does include all fixtures and finishes (but excludes land). Joseph and I were very careful in choosing inexpensive plumbing, lighting, casework and cabinetry. Our concrete floors are simply coated with a water-based sealer. We did not demand the best of everything, and by making careful choices and not being too picky, we were able to build our house at a very reasonable price. We've been living here for over five years now, and the home is very comfortable. We have found however, that it is too large for us and have been trying to find a new project for ourselves so that we can down size. Thing is, we build so affordably, that do downsize would probably mean an increase in expenses for us. So we may be "stuck" in this lovely home for many more years to come. We often find that clients only want the best — which is understandable — but "the best" inevitably adds cost to the project. If you want to build affordably, keep your wants in check.

What type of exterior siding is on the home? Is it stucco or a type of flat siding? Was it put on at the factory that made the structural insulated panels?
