Louisiana Tech Habitat for Humanity House Site Before Construction

Building for a client with specific desires can be difficult, but designing for one with few programming preferences can often be harder. Such was the case for a team of nine fifth-year students at Louisiana Tech University who teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to create a modern home in the traditional town of Ruston, Louisiana.

What would end up as a LEED silver home—the first of its kind in Northern Louisiana—started as an empty lot in need of significant work. Representing the US Green Building Council as the LEED for Homes Provider on the project, I can personally say the students worked very hard to build a beautiful, healthy, and energy efficient home. Congratulations!

I was impressed by the modern LEED style home. We had some architecture students from Univ. of Kansas build one here in KCKS. But it's too expensive for the neighborhood its in. I think recycling materials into new architecture is a great idea. Also the stuff being done in Greensburg, Kansas is very interesting. Check it out. Go Louisiana Tech! Change the world!
