Design Shop Visit: ReForm School in Silver Lake
Business as usual for ReForm School founders Billie Lopez and Tootie Maldonado means far more than simply managing their popular Silver Lake, California, shop. Whether exploring thrift stores for vintage finds, hosting a series of hands-on Home Ec. classes, or planning field trips to test out a new DIY-canoe kit, the duo successfully share their passion for unique goods with local (and loyal) customers and artists. With the addition of an online store, class is now in session for the rest of us, too.

Billie and Tootie, the lovely owners of Silverlake’s ReForm School, have gathered together buttons from artisans around the world into this perfect little set. They come together in a little pouch, and would make awesome embellishments on a canvas bag, sweater, or displayed in a small bowl at home.
Los Angeles furniture designer and maker Tanya Aguiñiga was raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Her highly emotional, tactile, and colorful work combines furniture design and community activism. This device takes bits of yarn and scraps of string and weaves them together into a brand new kind of twine, ideal for projects galore. Piping for a pillow? Textile necklace? Braided belt? Yep, yay, and wooohooo.
