Maryann Thompson Architects is a Cambridge-based architecture firm that offers complete design and master planning services to public and private clients. We specialize in architecture that is sustainable, regionally driven and that attempts to heighten the phenomenological qualities of the site in which we work. Our architectural investigations revolve around such concerns as the creation of a rich and thoughtful edge between inside and outside, utilizing light as a material, and juxtaposing a palette of warm, natural materials with a contemporary architectural statement. In our residential work, we engage our clients as equal participants in the design process to explore their individuality and preferences, which results in completely personal, highly original spaces.

The firm's staff of 15 comes from diverse backgrounds, including architecture, landscape architecture, green architecture, planning, interior design and the visual arts. Maryann Thompson Architects has LEED Certified professionals on staff, and Maryann carries degrees in both architecture and landscape architecture, bringing an “indoor/outdoor” approach to projects. Many of our projects create ambiguity between inside and outside space, “exteriorizing” the interior spaces and “interiorizing” the exterior spaces to invite a richer experience of the particular site and to define a unique sense of place.

Maryann's work has received two AIA National Honor Awards and numerous AIA New England Design Honor Awards and BSA Honor Awards for Design Excellence. Her work has been published in numerous design publications, including Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Design New England, Metropolis, Progressive Architecture, and Architecture and in various books including, Boutique Restaurants, New Sustainable Homes: Designs for Healthy Living, and The New Wood House.
