This Ralph L. Metallic paint should come with a how to guide or something explaining how to use this product. It's not regular paint, because you have to have a Ralph L roller in wich nobody told me,aRalph L primer in wich no one stated while I was purchasing this product.A 4 inch roller to use to cut in because regular cut in methods doesn't work.My experience as painter was flowed by this paint, and it caused me lots of money. The sales clerk or someone should of informed me about my this paint or at least told me something about how this metallic poop work ...I mean how this paint work.

I agree. We bought the "candlelight" finish. It is awful. It looks like the irridiscent glow that I might imagine from the chemical used to detect bodily fluids in a bad TV crime show. A perfectly good weekend spent, out of character, on a home improvement project. We used a perfectly acceptable base coat, and should have stopped there. Instead, I insisted that we use the "candlelight" top coat. My husband has wisely refrained from telling me that he told me so...I am lucky he is so restrained. My first clue should have been that there was a firm "no refunds" on this more expensive paint, as opposed to the flexiblity of every other brand at Home Depot! YUCK! Avoid if you can. Faux finish is just bad finish under RL management and suggestion.

Sorry that others have had problems with this paint. We purchased the paint on the recommendation of our PROFESSIONAL painter. The paint was applied by the painter we hired and the walls came out beautifully. Perhaps some of the 'Do It Yourself' people should research items prior to purchase. Although Lowes, Home Depot and other home improvement stores sell many products, there are some, if not many, that layman cannot use once purchased, which is why there are professionals in most home improvement areas. I would never attempt to do any remodeling or home repair as I am not a contractor nor was I trained in a speciality field. I would not expect a layman to operate on any of our patients, as they are not trained in my speciality field. It is common sense, which seems to be lacking in many these days.

Well although not every one can afford a "PROFESSIONAL" painter like snobby Mike You still can apply the top coat to the walls. I have been painting rooms for over 17 years and my dad taught me. he has a background in painting but is not a contractor. He is a artist and dose a very good job. I just watched the how to video with the robotic voice on Ralph Lauren.com. You do not apply like regular paint. You box in the topcoat in a 9 inch perimeter let dry then paing vertically. After that make horizontally strokes lifting the roller each time. make the strokes about 1ft wide to one and a half foot wide. make sure you paint the base coat first and let dry for 24 hours before applying the top coat. You can watch the video at ralphlauren.co they also have print out insturctions.

Just used Regent Metallics on a dresser (I am far from a professional, though I've painted my fair share of rooms) and it turned out beautifully! I am sorry some of you didn't have very helpful Home Depot clerks!! This is a lovely paint but definitely requires a little extra patience! I did not purchase the special rollers or brushes, I actually used those throwaway sponge brushes (recommended to me by the Home Depot guy) and they worked out really well! Lori was right, the videos (online or at the store displays) were very helpful!

Using Regent Metallics on furniture is outside the parameters for this product. People will apply any paint to any surface, but it may not always work (clean, hold up to abrasion or blocking, etc.). The primary reason that these technique products do not work for everyone, is that the specific directions are not followed. The Home Depot people in the paint department are not experts in all cases. It is adviseable to view the videos, and to read the labels for application tips.

I don't know why there are so many problems... I don't know about all Home Depots, but at the one I went to they have a pamphlet explaining how to apply the paint correctly ( you can probably find some instructions online too on their site ). If you can't afford to have someone apply it for you ( I can't ) just grab one of them. The instructions are simple and it turns out just fine.

Metallic paint while marketed for overall application on the entire wall is not really good for that - difficult to apply on large surfaces, highlights every imperfection on the wall and every error, however minuscule, is exaggerated by the way of streaks and marks. This is not just Ralph Lauren metallic - all metallic are semi-translucent paints and will NOT cover the walls well. The very lack of opacity which allows the metal flakes / pearl particles to be visible causes uneven coverage and difficulties in application. IMO the metallic paint really shines (pardon the pun) in faux finishing: example: metalic base and then flat varnish applied through a STENCIL - resulting in a beatufiul damask-like appearance. We also tried it on the reverse: eggshell base or faux finish base and then either roll a pattern (wagner magic rollers) or roll through a stencil. it looks like an incredibly pricey wallpaper without seems and ever peeling. Such results cannot be achieved via any other kind of paint - only metallic or pearl.
