Maine-based artist Josh Brill is having a dot sale on some of his fantastic Flora Fauna prints. $10 will get you an 8"x10" that's the quality of the regular limited edition runs (only a small dust spot or paper mark separates them from the originals), and there's a bunch of birds to choose from. I have several of these prints--both with and without the "dots" and would be very hard pressed to tell which is which. This is a great deal on some truly beautiful artwork. The artist is a talented perfectionist and this sale seems a little like like taking advantage of that, but hey, more cool prints for 10 bucks? I thought at $20 it was a deal. Awesome.
uh, plagiarism? the charley harper originals are much more inspiring, beautiful and, well, original than these. hmph. i vote no
While these are clearly Harper-inspired, I think "plagiarism" is too strong a word here. These have their own flavor.
To say that Brill’s work plagiarizes any one artist is exceptionally obtuse. Plagiarism means to rip-off something entirely, that is not the case with his work. Its ridiculous how that word gets tossed around these days. If you look at any great artist you will see the DNA of other artists before them. All good art starts from an inspired source, its just common sense. There’s some great work here and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
