I have had the yellow Francis!Francis! x5 machine for about 3 years now and it started rusting around the water drain. The paint has completely chipped off and continues to chip as I try to carefully wash the machine after each use. The service center for this machine suggested I sand the machine and spray it over with a yellow paint , which I can find in any hardware store. A good advice? Not really what one would expect after spending over $600.00. Needless to say, after getting annoyed with the look of the rust each time I was making my morning espresso, I attempted what they suggested. As expected, the result was a disaster! There is a reason, why I wanted the customer service repair department to assist me with the rust - but not for ($250) extra. So, now, I am left with a machine, of which superior quality I have serious doubts. Definitely would not upgrade to any other machines in that line, without knowing that should the problem arise again, their customer service is there to address the issue with a sense of responsibility.

Yeah, the paint on my X5 is chipping like crazy, too. Only had it about a year. It's a great espresso machine otherwise, but half the reason you buy this thing is because it looks cool. Rusted metal and chipped paint don't do wonders for my kitchen decor.

I have had my red X5 for about 5 years now with no problems. I pull about 3 to 4 shot per day and clean it every three weeks with Cafe' Clean. I have never had a problem with the finish of the machine and it still looks like new. I live in Florida near the sea with 80 to 90% humidity which is a magnet for rust but no problems. A good friend here in Miami also bought one for his office of 12 coffee addicts since it does pods and with no problems with service or finish. I would recommend this machine to everyone looking for a simple good espresso producing machine.
