Well Tooled

Though we couldn't see all 280-some events at the ninth-annual London Design Festival this September, a very hardworking furniture trend did catch our eye.

forking light by adam xander design

Forking Light

Adding a spun aluminum shade to and bulb to this pitchfork prototype we saw at the TENT London show takes it from fully functional in the farmyard to a perfect fit for the foyer.

Shoehorn Hanger by Faudet-Harrison for Tracey Neuls

Shoehorn Hanger

The clothes hanger gains a rather pedestrian second use thanks to the London-based design firm Faudet-Harrison. This hanger, made for shoe maven Tracey Neuls's new store in Shoreditch, has a shoehorn on each end.

Pipework series coat rack by Nick Fraser

Pipework Series Coat Rack

The "recontextualization of familiar things" drives Nick Fraser's design. We came across the powder-coated copper pipes and brass fittings of Fraser's handsome hook at the 100% Design show at Earl's Court.

red Clamp Lamp by Plant and Moss

Clamp Lamp

Made from an everyday industrial clamp threaded through with a stainless steel rod and aluminum shade, Clamp Lamp, by newcomers Plant and Moss, can be affixed nearly anywhere. It was a highlight of the excellent Tramshed show in the East End.

wooden Spring stool by Tamasine Osher Design

Spring Stool

Give the wooden seat of the Spring stool from Osher's debut collection a twist as you would the head of a screw, and its height adjusts accordingly.
