The Best of Northern Light Fair 2010

The Northern Light Fair is held every year in conjunction with the Stockholm Furniture Fair. This year approximately 100 exhibitors demonstrating the latest in home lighting, LEDs, halogen lamps, fiber lights and glittering chandeliers came together to reach the 40,000 visitors who turned out to attend both fairs. The emphasis here was on Scandinavian design. While much of the lighting on display came from Sweden, the other Nordic countries of Finland, Denmark and Norway were also well represented, with some exhibitors coming from as far as Italy. Of the many new lamps premiering at the fair, these were our favorites.

northern lights Milk Lamp norm architects press square

northern lights Sunday Lamp Frost Produkt square

Sunday Lamp

Sunday is not only a wall light and shelf in one, it’s also a mood-setting candle holder if that’s what the occasion calls for. Simply choose whether you prefer light bulb or candle, and twist the socket you want into place. This little piece is perfect as a bedside table, in the hallway, in the bathroom, or anywhere you need a light and a shelf. Sunday was designed by Martina Carpelan at Frost Produkt when she took up the challenge to create a lamp from scratch within a week. The lamp will be produced starting in April 2010 by Northern Lighting. While they don’t have distribution in the US, a list of retailers can be found on their website.
northern lights Spinning Light pendant Benjamin Hubert square

Spinning Light

British designer Benjamin Hubert tries to take a material led approach to everything he designs. In the case of Spinning Light Tall and Spinning Light Wide, his latest designs for &tradition, the material and process was metal spinning. The shape of the lamps were inspired by the classic spinning-top toy, one of Benjamin’s childhood favorites. They’re made of lacquered steel with a textile cord and come in black, white or purple. A list of &tradition resellers can be found on their website.
northern lights TR15 Lamp pendant Tom Rossau square

TR15 Pendant Light

Self-taught Danish designer Tom Rossau is a firm believer in coincidence and enhancing the element of play in all of his designs. So it should be no surprise that his latest lamps have had some fun with our idea of what a lampshade should look like. He’s split the familiar lampshade shape into three adjustable sections and covered them all in his favorite material – thin birch veneer. The result casts a warm glow through natural wood and gives you the ability to focus the light where it’s needed. The lamp also comes in floor and table lamp variations. Resellers throughout Europe, New Zealand, and Hong Kong can be found on Tom Rossau’s website.
northern lights Stitch Lamp Mattias Stahlbom square

Stitch Lamp

A wall mounted lamp that can swivel to direct light up and down or left and right… and it’s inspired by the kind of embroidery frame you might find in an industrial machinery factory. The Stitch Lamp is the latest design for Zero by Mattias Ståhlbom, one of the designers behind TAF who made a statement last year with his Bottle lamp. Stitch is made of roller milled aluminum with a diffuser of matte acrylic. A list of dealers and distributors worldwide can be found on the Zero website.
northern lights Beam Light pendant Johan Carpner square

Beam Pendant

Beam is a pendant lamp with a twist. With its comfortable, soft working light, it can be pointed in any direction, providing an oversized beam precisely where it’s needed and creating points of visual interest in larger spaces. Beam works well in clusters with its three standard lengths, and comes in matte white, black, or red. Custom lengths and colors can be special ordered. Beam was designed by Johan Carpner for Swedish lighting company Zero. Zero is distributed throughout the world and in the US by MOD – Modern Objects + Design. northern lights Snakkes Daniel Benito Cortazar led square

Snakkes LED Quote Board
