Australian design duo Nicholas Karlovasitis and Sarah Gibson started their Sydney-based studio Design By Them as a means to bring new and innovative products to the market at home and abroad. Their latest introduction is the Butter Stool, a small seat constructed almost completely from recycled milk containers (and made of 100% post-consumer recycled content). Arriving as a single flat piece for easy hand folding-and-building, it's also available in white, black, grey, beige, blue, green, red & orange.

Interesting--but at the price a very expensive way to recycle. Compare this stool, for example, to an inverted plastic crate, or a plastic chair that can be purchased for $6.99US. If this really costs this much to manufacture with a reasonable profit margin, then the design has failed as too costly; if it costs much less but is priced for it's cool, buzz or cache factors, it smacks of excess--especially in a world where the money spent on one of these would feed a sub-Saharan African family for several months.
flat pack is cool. so are things that keep plastic out of landfills.
Fun and looks good but boring and ugly price tag. This kind of design gives reused/ recycled materials a bad name. Disappointing. .. and what does 'almost completely' mean?
