Two B&B Italia sofa designs crop up frequently in the Dwell archives: the Charles by Antonio Citterio and the Tufty-Time by Patricia Urquiola. Here are seven homes that sport the now-iconic upholstered seats.
Living room in Phoenix, Arizona

At the base of Echo Mountain in Phoenix, a geometric home by Wendell Burnette opens up to the surrounding desert landscape. For the seating area, the owners selected a Charles sofa by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia in addition to CH07 Shell chairs by Hans Wegner, a PK61 coffee table by Poul Kjærholm, and a Nesta rug from Design Within Reach.

Modern living room with black walls and light furniture

Thanks to a contemporary interior that she’s been updating for a decade, modern architect Abigail Turin has learned to love her traditional 1925 San Francisco home. Turin offset the living room’s somber hues with a pair of bone-colored Charles sofas by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia.

James Marcovitz in living room of Tribeca loft.

American history lives on in a family’s Tribeca, New York, loft after a renovation by a couple of enterprising architects. In the loft’s living area, resident James Marcovitz sits on a Charles sofa by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia, in front of a Jean Prouvé Potence Lamp that has been reissued through Vitra.

For this tiny house in the Belgian forest, a little extra square footage comes in the form of a glassed-in addition with a stellar view. In the living area, a Tufty-Time sofa by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia, a Soft Grid blanket by Established & Sons, and a wood-burning stove by Stûv keep her comfortable.

Grunbaum was unafraid of a little color, as his living room proves. It includes a coffee table by Mockett and a Tufty-Time sofa by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia.

Avid surfer and creative director Eric Grunbaum hired Los Angeles–based architect Barbara Bestor to design a house for him on Venice Beach. The floor is new and the brickwork has been whitewashed to create a cleaner feel, but the beams supporting the gallery were left in their original state, as were the paint-splattered iron railings. The Tufty Time sofa is by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Itali

In the lofty Amsterdam apartment of Texas-born Hunter Hindman and Shelby Carr, mid-century modern mixes freely with contemporary Dutch design in a setting transposed from the 17th century. The deceptive simplicity of the dining table and chairs, by Piet Hein Eek, and Tufty Time sofa by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia, enhance the authentic feeling created by the old gallery-style middle floor, supported by massive 400-year-old beams.

Atlas shelving provides the framework for Farnham’s entertainment center. Almost 100 square feet of Patricia Urquiola’s Tufty-Time sofa for B&B Italia provides ample space to stretch out.

Henry Hill’s 1947 renovation of a 1908 Victorian tucked away on an alley in historic Russian Hill is a gem of a modern infill project. Atlas shelving provides the framework for the residents’s entertainment center, while almost 100 square feet of Patricia Urquiola’s Tufty-Time sofa for B&B Italia provides ample space to stretch out.
