One of my favorite wedding gifts I received was a set of Danish housewares firm Bodum’s glass-walled Canteen tumblers. I drink from them every day, set them out when guests come over, feel a private thrill when the crew of Battlestar Gallactica drink from them on the show, and was truly upset when one of them broke. If I had any qualm at all it’s that they’re on the fragile side, but I am delighted now to report that Bodum has heard my quiet cries and in their 2009 Collection come out with a hardy porcelain mug in the same shape.
I spotted them in the shop at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art yesterday and was very pleased indeed to see the three sizes of these mugs conform to those of the glass-walled Canteen cups I like so much. Each mug has a silicon sleeve around it for good gripping and the double-wall design helps keep hot things hot and cold things cold. The sleeves, which come in eight colors add a dash of character to the otherwise neutrally hued cups. The mugs come in sets of two.
