WALL DECALS FROM BLIKLittle adds a bit of visual spice to the walls like a pop of color. Wallpaper is a fine bet, and the growing glut of the stuff should make it easy enough to separate the wheat from the chaff. Wall decals have also had something of a vogue, and in that vein we turn to the 2x4 collection for Blik. A handful of new designs by 2x4, a firm of identity designers who have worked for MTV, Prada, and other "seems-I've-heard-of-them" brands, are certainly worth a look. In fact they defy you not to notice them.

THE WRONG IMPRESSIONGoing for the hand touch isn’t exactly foolproof. An easy way to miss: embossed wall coverings. Lincrusta was originally invented in 1877 as a kind of textile-linoleum hybrid by linoleum progenitor Frederick Walton, and was made with gelled linseed oil backed by a heavy canvas. It functioned as a kind of molded linoleum and was offered up as an economic alternative to hand-carved plaster. It continues to be used today, not only as a wall covering but for all manner of decorative borders, dados, and friezes, the subtle sense of dimension suggesting wood, pressed tin, or even leather.

FABRIC ALPHABET DECALSGot something to say? Spell it out: on the wall, on your books, on your backpack, wherever the heck you feel like. The lovely Lorena Siminovich creatied these adhesive decals out of fabric, and the reusable letters won't lose their stickum no matter how many times you peel and press.
