The Toy/Chaise from Brooklyn-based designer Lisa Albin is a durable dresser and storage unit that doubles as a comfy space for your kid to sit and lounge. The birch plywood box has a built-in backrest so the little one can take a rest after picking up her toys. IglooPlay had a wonderful display at Dwell on Design this year, and it's definitely worth a look at the website to see more modern tot furniture.
Well, this is nice. Red isn't really a part of our current domestic color scheme, but somehow this bright bookshelf seems like it would work in spite—or because—of its bold hue. The powder-coated steel frame could stand up against oversized hardbacks, magazine backissues, record collections, or any number of combinations of knicks, knacks, bits and bobs, and for those without the floor space it can also be wall-mounted.
Wall shelves are wonderful for storage and display, giving books, pictures, and knick knacks a good-looking home that doesn't take up valuable real estate on the floor. Waveform's generous 13 inch depth will support the larger hardbacks, while its 22 inch length lends itself to a mix-and-match modularity that will make a neat visual statement. The powder-coated, sheet-metal units are available in twelve colors.
Utilitarian with a bit of flair, the Portariviste does not baffle: The magazines go here. The built-in handle and light weight are nice for those nomadic souls who want to tote their reading materials from kitchen to bathroom to sofa.
