We love a good looking sofa here at Dwell, and can definitely appreciate the look of something a little bit outside-the-boxy form of the classic settee. Confluences made its worldwide debut at Salone last month (check it out in this month’s issue of Dwell!), and French-born, Milan-based designer Philippe Nigro took his first ever trip to the states to introduce his sofa to the US market. I caught up with him at the Ligne Roset showroom on Park Avenue in New York.

Moustache is a new French company debuting their contemporary home furnishings at Salone this year. The first collection features work by Matali Crasset, Big-Game, Francois Azambourg, Ana Mir and Emili Padros, and Inga Sempé. Sempé and I had emailed a few times before the fair and when we met in Milan she told me she was very surprised, as she'd imagined me as a very slight blonde man (I am, in fact, quite the opposite: A tall, brunette lady). After a laugh, I had a chance to chat with the lovely Ms. Sempé about her latest design venture.
Jason Bruges is showing in Milan for the first time with Established & Sons. His Flatliner family of lights uses LEDs on thin discs with touch technology along the rim: simply tap your fingertip and they begin to shine, or leave it there and the fixtures will dim. “They’re stealth and sleek, but emit this very warm kind of light,” he told me. These cool lamps with bright pin pricks shining through will be offered in hanging, floor, and desk varieties. Though his studio generally designs for public space, he's thrilled to be making pieces for a different kind of audience.
