What to do if you want a small, minimalist kitchen—but, like any normal person, you have lots of stuff you need to stash away? In this farmhouse in Outgaarden, Belgian architects 51n4e devised a clever solution: they created a pristine and luxurious kitchen with clean lines, little visual clutter, and a secret storage room.
Currently on view in Los Angeles is an unconventional show organized by the artist Fritz Haeg, best known for his Edible Estates project, in which he helps homeowners replace their front lawns with wilder, food-producing gardens. "At Home in L.A." is an interactive installation that invites visitors to make themselves at home on a massive crocheted rug and to "try out" L.A. living for a little while.

Built in 1950, Lloyd and Kirsten Thompson's Austin house had "some inherent mid-century charm and good flow," says architect J.C. Schmeil of Merzbau Design Collective. An addition, however, had been poorly done in the 70's—it was out of level, uninspiring, and made no connection to the backyard. So the couple hired Schmeil to remodel the addition, hoping to better connect the living area to the kitchen, dining area, and lounge; and to open the lounge to the outdoors. We've been following molo, the Vancouver-based design firm, for quite some time now, featuring their soft collection previously on Dwell.com and bestowing our Best of Show award on their booth at the 2011 Dwell on Design event in Los Angeles. So it was with much excitement that we learned about their latest addition to their line of creative honeycombed paper structures, the cloud floor and table softlights, which were announced yesterday.
We're big fans of VIPP here at Dwell, and we've previously covered products like their soap dispenser, trash bin, and toothbrush holder in the magazine and on Dwell.com. So we were excited to see a recent video they produced, which gets into the history of the company and their approach to design and manufacturing.
