Uhuru is a design + build furniture company dedicated to sustainability and creating timeless designs. Uhuru builds each piece by hand in their Red Hook Brooklyn studio. Many of the items they create, utilize materials that have been reclaimed, recycled, repurposed, reused or otherwise rejected from their original function. Founded in 2004 by Rhode Island School of Design graduates Jason Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf, Uhuru (ooh-HOO-roo) is a furniture design/build company merging avant-garde design with a commitment to environmental sustainability.

War Craft Coffee Table

When painted large on the exterior of a warship, the black-and-white stripes on this low table “dazzle” and confuse the eye of the enemy. Uhuru used teak from the deck of an authentic World War II vessel to create a collection inspired by the material’s storied nautical past.
