Melbourne Map: Contribute Now!
As any dogged dwell.com fan knows, we love Melbourne. Though we know which design spots and architectural landmarks thrilled us in old Melbs, we thought we'd open up the discussion to our online readers. What do you most love in Melbourne, Australia? Is it Federation Square, coffee just off Flinders Lane, the graffiti on Croft Alley, or maybe the dreaded Yellow Peril?! We selected a handful of spots, but we encourage you to add your own. As we collect more and more ideas from you we'll update the map until we've got the best guide to Melbournian design the Web has ever known. What's more, expect to see three reader-submitted hotspots in an upcoming story that will appear in the June 2011 issue.

Art Series Hotels
You have to go and have a look, or even better, stay at one of the hotels from the Art Series Hotels, a recent initiative which sees new boutique hotels inspired by and dedicated to a unique and celebrated Australian artist. Currently, there exist 3 of these hotels, inspired by Adam Cullen, John Olsen and Charles Blackman. The hotels embody the artist's individual style and characteristics. They are conveniently located in the hip neighbourhoods of South Yarra, the Prahan district and on St. Kilda Road, all within easy distance of Melbourne CBD. Plenty of wonderful restaurants and bars around as well.

Ragland Street, Port Melbourne or Barkley Street planters by Landscape Architects Site office
The Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC). Very quirky and looks great at night.
I love taking runs along Beach Road from Sandringham to Mordialloc. The dirt trail along the Bay is beautiful. There are always tons of bicyclists out. Rickett's Point is nice.
For some great Melbourne Finds you cant go past degraves Street - A hot spot for Melbourne's most fashionable boys and girls riddled with fantastic cafe's and bar's. Around the corner on Manchester lane you will find yourself at Design a Space for some local jewellery and fashion pieces and also Melbourne's infamous 'Claude Maas' - taking Melbourne's chique to the max with some gorgeously designed pieces for both sexes featuring simple interesting cuts in dark bold colors.
Craft Victoria, the little gem is a Melbourne institution
Lygon Street! My husband, daughter, and I lived in Melbourne for two years, as he was completing his MBA, and we were fortunate enough to live on Lygon Street in East Brunwick. Lygon Street is lined with beautiful little Italian restaurants and somehow remains both quaint and chaotic. Readings Bookstore, Toto's Pizza, and Brunetti's bakery were some of our very favorite locations. It is also near the Melbourne Museum and University of Melbourne's campus. Sydney Road was also one of our favorite destinations - it was truly a cultural melting pot, and full of tiny, unique art galleries and boutique shops. It was also home to some of Melbourne's intriguing graffiti. Great place to take a stroll. OH! And the Queen Victoria Market!!!! Has literally everything under the sun, a great find for foodies and bargain seekers alike, and a cafe full of delicious treats (I recommend the Italian pancakes with cream and berries - YUM!). Live music and camel rides were also a regular feature. As you can see, we love Melbourne - doesn't hurt that we returned with a little souvenir that reminds us of that beautiful city daily - our youngest daughter, Matilda. :) Looking forward to taking her back for a visit some day.

So many favourite places: Abbotsford Convent arts precinct Morey St Armadale (cute little homewares strip) Greville St Prahran (great independent shops) All the wonderful fresh produce markets (especially Prahran, South Melbourne and Queen Vic) Cutler & Co for blow-the-budget food Gingerboy for a quintessentially Melbourne eating experience Victoria St Abbotsford for cheap-as-chips Vietnamese Ponyfish Island (bar) - very unique and there's no better place to hang out on a warm weekend afternoon Siglo (bar) - Melbourne's best rooftop bar, with a very Melbourne view! I could go on...
