I was browsing in a Scandinavian design shop a few weeks ago when I came across this handy little kitchen aid whose ingenuity came as no shock—given the Nordic penchant for innovation—but nonetheless seemed out of place coming from the wintry north. A modish, plastic herring smoker, sure, but this winsome antidote to the menacing garlic press struck me as riper territory for Mediterranean types.
