(Los Angeles, CA) March 14, 2014 _ Dwell on Design LA, now the largest design event in the U.S., returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center June 20-22, 2014. This unique 3-day event offers continuous content from over 200 top minds in design, dynamic exhibitions by more than 400 exhibitors, and unparalleled educational opportunities. With nearly 300,000 square feet to be transformed into worlds of inspiration and activity, from Dwell Outdoor to the Modern Family Pavilion to the Tech Zone, this year’s 30,000+ attendees will find themselves immersed in new ideas for modern living.
Dwell is also thrilled to welcome the return of our industry partner, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), who will host their National Leadership Conference at Dwell on Design. Thousands of designers from around the country are expected to attend again this year, and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered through onstage programming and in breakout rooms. Friday, June 20, is trade day and will cater to designers, architects, and construction professionals.
Dwell is pleased to announce American designer Stephen Burks as the keynote speaker for Dwell on Design 2014. Burks, along with his studio Readymade Projects, has taken a multifaceted approach to design, resulting in collaborations with international brands (Dedon, Calligaris, Missoni) while establishing his own philanthropy- and craft-driven initiatives in under-recognized communities across the globe. Burks will discuss his passion for craft and impart lessons for young designers on how to marry personal goals with marketable design. Check out our Q&A with Burks at: http://www.dwellondesign.com/blog/keynote-speaker-stephen-bu...
Dwell will be launching an installation with Burks at Salone del Mobile in Milan next month. Stay tuned for more information on the event and launch party.

ON THE SHOW FLOOR
New to DOD this year are five DOD PAVILIONS, curated thematically by our Dwell editors. • ENERGY 360 PAVILION: The pavilion showcases new technologies that advance the
built environment, focusing on smart home technology. The goal is to help our audience
live better, and be better informed about the energy choices they make.
• DESIGN FOR HUMANKIND: This series track is devoted to issues that explore how
good design makes our lives better by protecting our quality of life. We span topics from Aging in Place to Accessible Design. Also, a Universal Design home on the show floor will demonstrate accessible UD elements like “smart carpets,” which utilize sensors to
determine unusual foot patterns or if someone has fallen.
SCANDINAVIAN PAVILION: Dwell celebrates the unique modern design heritage found
in Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, inviting young designers, furniture and technology companies and product manufacturers to share their latest creations and concepts.
MODERN FAMILY PAVILION: This pavilion offers innovative architecture and design solutions that address the myriad needs, configurations, and challenges that make a house a home.
DESIGN FOR TOMORROW: This student exhibition space will showcase student work in the form of multi-media, mixed media, models and drawings from top area schools including UCLA AUD, USC School of Architecture, SCI-ARC, Otis, Georgia Tech, UCLA Extension and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.
RESOURCE FURNITURE & GEORGIA TECH’S ZERO ENERGY DESIGN HOUSING (ZEDH):
Georgia Tech students majoring in architecture, high performance building, and engineering are collaborating to research, design, engineer and build a four- to ten-unit net zero energy house prototype. This prototype will then become a living laboratory for ultra-low energy efficiency testing and other related research. At year’s end, each student will submit a residential interior design and a panel of renowned designers and architects will select the winning design, which will be showcased at Dwell on Design LA.
