Junior Designer

We are looking for a junior designer to join our creative team in San Francisco. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about designing editorial columns and the front / back matter of the magazine, possesses a willingness to learn, and participates in regular design critiques and accepts criticism without ego. The junior designer also supports the design team with components of feature stories including drawing diagrams, maps, and floor plans.

Primary Responsibilities

= Work on the design of front and back of book stories

= Assist in drawing diagrams, maps and floor plans

= Support the team with updating design rounds

= Collaborate with photo team on photo selection for front of book stories

= Assist photo director and senior designers on photo shoots when necessary

= Support Design Production Manager with packaging digital art for pre-press

= Participate in weekly creative meetings to discuss the status of stories in design

= Maintain organized files of illustrators and their samples

= Help with general studio tasks (cut and trim layouts for art wall, facilitate early phases of production, keep supplies in stock, etc)



Qualifications

= Minimum 1-2 years experience within a design studio or similar internship

= BA in Graphic Design

= A portfolio that illustrates a good understanding of grids and layout, and strong typography skills

= Be proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)

= A solid working knowledge of the Mac platform

= Strong ability to share ideas and communicate clearly

= An interest in modern design and architecture

= A good sense of humor and the desire to continue learning are essential
