Dwell on Design: Palm Springs

November 16, 2006

There has been a lot of buzz about Dwell Magazine's upcoming Dwell on Design Conference in the Mecca of modern design. It certainly seems to be an event worth getting to if your schedule permits. Plus, you may get a chance to meet with some of The PrairieMod Squad members who will be attending. That's right! Just off the heels of the podcast coverage we did for the Exploring Progressive Design Conference, we have partnered with Dwell to offer daily podcast recaps of their event.

Anyone wanting to know more about the history of modernist architecture, and how Palm Springs became a significant setting for many of the world’s greatest architects to experiment, as well as the new concepts that are being explored in the Coachella Valley, will not be disappointed. Conference attendees will go away enlightened and enriched with a better understanding of our cultural history and will have the opportunity to meet first hand the people who have, and are, creating history in Palm Springs.

Activities include: cocktail receptions at the Hotel Zoso, Leo Marmol's Desert House and John Lautner's Elrod House; three in-depth sessions discussing "Visions of Utopia", "Desert Modernism" and the "Future of Desert Architecture"; a final-cut version premiere of the Desert Utopia documentary; architectural tours of some classic works like Neutra's Kaufman House; and a modern showcase to preview and shop modern design merchandise.

Speakers include: Alan Hess, Leo Marmol, Jennifer Siegal, Donald Wexler and many more great individuals.
