Due to the sloped street and the need for a continuously-flat first floor for ease of gallery work, the live-work studio submerges in the site, accentuated by a 50-foot long window set on the foundation and near the level of the sidewalk, doubling as clerestory diffused light for the workshop. The roof is comprised of Structurally Insulated Panels, with integral standing seam metal roofing painted white to reflect the intense summer sun.
