Originally in a condo-hotel, this project was a unique opportunity for me to use my hotel and hotel interiors background into use in Manhattan.

In the heart of Upper East Side, in a building built in 1927, this living space needed an urgent update.
The client needed a light bright space so we kept the hues light but added accents which reflected the building's architecture so when you walk out into the corridor you do not feel totally alienated and it all made sense.

Even tough it is not a huge space, we had many issues to tackle.

One was the existing kitchen peninsula. It was not only built in very dark colors but also was totally wrongly placed. So we got rid of the peninsula and designed an island which provided much better flow to the space without blocking any corridor but also with its scale it made the whole space look lighter and bigger. We also designed new cabinet doors for the kitchen to match the whole design.

Lighting was problematic overall so we have designed a new ceiling by creating indirect soft led lighting by keeping the height of the ceiling at a maximum in most parts.

Another issue was the glass balcony door. It needed some sun/privacy block but because of its' placement it looked really bad with a separate shade on it. So when we were changing the shades we used automated one large piece which gave the illusion of continuity and for the remaining bottom part of the glass Balcony door we designed a permanent grill which blocked the sun and gave some privacy as needed without really closing up the space. It also gave us the opportunity to use a motif of the built era to give the space some character and relevance.
We wanted to keep everything tidy by using a floating desk/media unit and a translucent sliding door to the entrance storage to give the space some depth and better function than the existing pocket doors which were opening right into the entrance door.
