The Sutter Residence; by E. Stewart Williams AIA,1958, with original interiors by Arthur Elrod; City of Palm Springs Historic Site # 133.
This iconic modernist masterpiece, in Deepwell area of Palm Springs, was photographed by Julius Shulman in 1960. Williams signature use of concrete block, steel and glass is the epitome of the Post War modernist and Brutalist styles.

Enter through distinctive metal gates and into the private, enclosed glass front courtyard.

The house opens to glass walls revealing the large pool, shrouded by a beamed, steel structure Elrod designed to encompass shading for sun.

The interior is a sophisticated combination of teak walls, concrete block and glass; designed by Williams and Elrod to be casual, yet refined; blurring lines between indoor and outdoor living. The oversized master bedroom suite renovation has every imaginable luxury, including a library, double vanity, open shower and heated floors. The home has a generous second bedroom and bath, additional powder and an open, elegant wood finished cooks kitchen. The living room is signified by the exquisite concrete block and brick fireplace.

The property was completely updated, with all upgraded systems, large outdoor covered living and dining terraces, outdoor kitchen and owned solar system. This once in a lifetime architectural was recently designated as a historic site.
