Our clients bought the home next door and asked us to design and build an indoor/outdoor entertainment extension to their existing 4-bedroom-home. The project entailed a major renovation/updating of a typical c.1960s PNW waterfront cabin and detached cabana in order to create a relaxed contemporary seashore dwelling with light and connection to the outdoors for our client’s Entertainment Party House. Our design features new lighting throughout, a new addition Entry Atrium, a custom 48”x100” hinge pin Sapele Entry Door, 10 slabs of white marble for counter tops, hearth and mantle with 5 vein matched waterfall ends/details, new stone cladding and tile throughout, Custom Walnut casework, walls and box beams, floating wood shelves and vanity tops, a dining Pergola and benches clad in Kebony Wood with shingled siding and white trim to match the neighboring residence. Careful consideration was given to enhance the overall color palette with the materials selected to compliment and blend with the PNW sky and shoreline. We also added 2) exterior tray fireplaces, 1) 6’ linear fireplace and 1) wood burning masonry fireplace to the afore mentioned areas along with large wall openings with lift and slide doors which were designed with flush thresholds that open the two dwellings sharing the indoor/outdoor experience amidst the natural setting.
The unique Lutron Ketra HomeWorks QSX system with its “human-centric” Ketra lighting transforms the home at the push of a button, enabling owners and guests to experience light that energizes, soothes, invigorates, and inspires. Additionally, the state-of-the-art sound system by James Speakers was installed throughout the indoor/outdoor space, and teams with a Media Room featuring a 150” screen, 4K laser projector with Dolby Atmos surround sound all tucked away in the daylight basement.
This home is truly a place to play and entertain!
This renovation required extensive engineering of the 1960’s construction to retro fit and accommodate the new Atrium and 4)20-foot wall openings. Our experience of over 40 years in the construction industry and understanding of structural elements enabled us to remove the central post support for the existing/new roofs by designing and fabricating an upside-down truss bracket capturing 2 ridge beams which was all a considerable engineering feat.
