The interior of this 2,249-square-foot Carmel Valley home was extensively renovated in keeping with its classic Mid-Century Modern style. The home was originally designed by Will Shaw, FAIA, of Burde Shaw Associates in Monterey, qualifying it as a historic structure. Care was taken to use only materials, shapes and hues that honor its vintage roots. Intriguing angles define the ceilings and upper windows of this two-bedroom, two-bath charmer. Muted-tone wood graces the walls, ceilings and floors, accented with splashes of the brilliant colors of the 1960s. The style of the original square-framed, recessed lighting fixtures was replicated and carried throughout including the tray ceiling in the dining room. Insulation was added to improve energy efficiency. Some windows and doors were replaced to take advantage of the natural light and inspiring views.
