CGA was contacted to renovate and update an old ranch house that is nestled up at the top of Altadena. The existing house was closed off and dark, did not have an ensuite primary bedroom, and had a bathroom in the middle of the kitchen.
The kitchen was reconfigured and opened up to the TV room to free up the space. The TV room had been an old porch with a heavy clinker brick fireplace, which was grandfathered in. We rebuilt it with a modular firebox that sits on a cantilevered concrete slab that was poured in place and is faced with tile. The new configuration allowed the TV and fireplace to share the spotlight at the front of the room.
This is a family that cooks and the island reflects this. There is an area with lower a counter allowing for bread kneading and accommodating the height of the Client. The kitchen has small family office incorporated for bills and schedules to be managed and an eat-in nook with views to the yard. The family enjoys looking at maps and so the table top was custom made with an epoxy resin map and an aluminum edge band. The kitchen cabinets are a combination of walnut veneer and orange laminate, heath tile, and leather finish quartzite counters.
The old garage was converted into the Primary Suite, with bathroom, laundry, and opens up to the pool.
