this is a 3000 sq.ft. detached, single family, design-build project that we are building in the sierra foothills.
the home sits on a very secluded 80 plus acres site with views in all directions.
the building is elongated to take advantage of winter sun / solar orientation, while the overhangs and interlocking volumes shield the building from the intense summer sun. to further take advantage of the views and support an age-in-place building, there will be an elevator to a large roof deck, including a telescope.
the high performance building envelope, consisting of 6" engineered exterior walls with spray foam insulation, non-vented attic and foundation, high performance windows and doors and covered with low maintenance, fire resistant materials will yield a cost effective and efficient building. the selection of materials and finishes will reinforce the strong connection to the past while taking advantage of modern applications and techniques to yield a personalized building for the owners.
