Interior designer Dennis Duffy recently celebrated 35 years in design working with luxury custom homeowners, among whom have been some well-known figures in both sports and entertainment. In that time, he has addressed some unusual requests and challenging spaces. Recently, he received a call from a repeat client who informed him that she was moving to the Four Seasons' new residences in the center of Boston's Back Bay. The triangular 61-story, 706,000 square-foot tower was designed by notable Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The client mandated that the unit express her personality and reflect her chosen color palette - every shade of pink, with accents of white and gold.

In addition, the client is an ardent collector of dolls, which include over 40 special edition Barbies and one collector's edition American Girl doll. Duffy took on the challenge of displaying this collection as an integral part of the home's design.

A long, curved hall transitioned from the foyer to the living room. Duffy saw this entry feature as his first opportunity to introduce the space's color palette, finishing the curved wall with an ombré of color that ranged from the palest pink to magenta and incorporated over a dozen layers of different pigmented metallics and powders. Duffy inserted a 10-foot illuminated display cabinet within this background, lined with glass beads to serve as a showcase for some of the collection.

Ultimately, the client paid Duffy the best compliment: the space captured more than she had ever imagined and has become her forever home!
