McLane House

SO70 was designed for a flat mountain site in Asheville NC for a single resident who wanted to age in place in a one-level modern home. Conceptually the house is a composition of two volumes - one housing the public spaces and the other organizing the private areas of the design program - bedrooms, laundry, bathrooms and a hobby room. The house is private towards the street but opens up with ample glazing towards a backyard meadow. Each interior space connects to a covered back deck through sliding doors offering easy connection to the outdoors.

The rich patina of the CorTen skin adds visual interest to the understated house volume.
