Downtown Bentonville mid-century masterpiece goes on the market for $3.5 million

A mid-century masterpiece just blocks from the downtown Bentonville square and world class cycling trails. Designed by renowned architect Cecil Stanfield and built by Master Builder Truman Boling in 1954. Cecil Stanfield played a big role in the mid-century modern era designing the iconic Zebco “Fishing Reel” home, the Abundant Life Building, aka the Diamond Tower, originally Oral Roberts' headquarters and television studio at Oral Roberts University, along with several homes and office buildings around the Tulsa area. Master builder Truman Boling worked on several Mid-century modern homes partnering with Fay Jones and Cecil Stanfield.

In 2015 this home underwent a 2 ½ year remodel of the original 3928 sq. ft living space along with a 2,358 new addition bringing the total living space to 6,286 sq. ft. The remodel also included adding a new oversized 1,404 sq. ft heated/cooled, 4-car garage with custom mahogany wood doors and a full kitchen. On the inside the original structure was taken down to the studs and on the outside the vinyl siding along with the original siding was removed being replaced with gorgeous stained mahogany siding. The original tar and gravel roof were replaced with a commercial grade metal roof. All the original single pane windows and sliding doors were replaced with mahogany wood energy efficient double pane windows and doors.

The new addition includes an unbelievable master suite with 16ft ceilings, custom 14 ft fireplace a 10 ft BigAss fan, private patio, retail store style closet and a spa bath. The addition also includes a wine cellar with a stonewall that was the back of the original house, mud room and utility room. To keep the midcentury modern theme terrazzo floors were poured in the new addition to match the existing house. A completely new kitchen with high-end wolf and subzero appliances along with handless motorized touch open and close modern cabinets. To make the new addition seamlessly match the existing house, stone was sourced from the same quarry in southern Arkansas that the original stone came from in 1954. The home is a smart home running audio, lighting and motorized shades on a control4 system with touch switches on the walls and can also be controlled from iPhones and iPads. The gravel courtyard was replaced with an oak leaf stamped concrete with a custom 14-foot fireplace. An oak leaf stamped concrete patio was also added to the front of the house with another custom 14-foot fireplace. The 2 original wood burning fireplaces in the Living room and Family room were converted to gas fireplaces giving the house a total of 5 fireplaces. The stone wall around the property was rebuilt adding a new fence in the front. The landscaping was completely redone sodding the entire yard in zoysia golf course grass.

This Midcentury masterpiece is located on Central Ave which is the main corridor connecting downtown to both I49 and S. Walton Blvd. It is a short 3 block walk to the Bentonville square and a 6 block walk to Compton Gardens where you can hop on the Razorback Regional Greenway or take the native woodland path that leads you to Crystal Bridges.
