"At the interior, wood columns reach to arched beams and rafters, forming a canopy high above. Corner windows throughout make an immediate connection to nature, and the verticality of the trees outside. On a very visceral level, walking across the central bridge takes us back to our primal canopy," says Armin.

And indeed it does - upon entering the home, one is immediately struck by the great room's 20+ foot high arched beamed ceilings and a curved bridge that runs through the center of the home. A curved sofa by Ted Boerner sits gracefully in the living room and can be separated and reconfigured for flexible seating around the fireplace. A Ted Boerner coffee table compliments this form and adds another layer of materials with its bronze metal accents. Against the far wall we see a painting by renowned artist Raimonds Staprans. All of the furnishings and artwork are available to purchase - a true delight for those looking for a turnkey sanctuary as many pieces were custom designed specifically for this home.

Curved forms are a theme repeated throughout the residence and Armin explains, "Just like repeating melodies and patterns in a musical composition, repeating architectural shapes and forms bring us deeper understanding and comfort. In the Ridgeview House, shapes as small as the edge of a tile, the top of a base-board, to countertops, doors and backsplashes, all the way up to the overall shapes of the roofs and decks - all relate to one another, creating a cohesive theme. The repetition of these forms and shapes is the handprint of this home’s design. It’s what makes the Ridgeview House unique; but more importantly, it’s what makes it cohesive, comfortable, and sublime."

The chef’s kitchen features custom walnut and rift-cut white oak details, honed soapstone counters and industrial grade stainless steel appliances. Lisa chose a soft sky blue and grey quartzite for the backsplash to bring the colors and textures of nature into the kitchen - they resonate with the colors of the sky and the clouds floating by. The kitchen island is flanked by dark walnut butcher blocks with a rich chocolate tone and two walnut barstools by Ted Boerner.

Essential details have been thought out, including a large chef’s sink and an iPhone controlled espresso bar so that you can start your morning coffee from bed or the walking trails. The floor to ceiling corner windows bring the outside in, and the kitchen's side door leads to a beautifully landscaped yard with a native butterfly and bee garden, an herb garden and a fire pit.

In the master bathroom, the arched tiles in the shower further echo the home's curved forms and the calming blue grey tones bring a peaceful feeling to this space. The vanity's cabinetry matches the oak cabinetry in the kitchen with its clear vertical grain. Mosaic tiles from Artistic Tiles feature a bay leaf design to the shower floor and the surrounding stone is from Davinci Marble.

Above the open space preserves of the Los Trancos forest lies the newly constructed Ridgeview Home - a contemporary masterpiece completed in 2019 by award winning architectural and interior design firm, Staprans Design. The house was just listed for sale in Portola Valley, CA and it's a stunning site to behold.

Husband and wife team Lisa and Armin Staprans conceived this architectural gem as a harmonious sanctuary set amidst nature, and they infused every inch of the home with both heart and soul. Explaining her philosophy on how design impacts our soul, Lisa Staprans tells us, “I believe one's environment and surroundings have a profound effect on one's sense of wellbeing. If we consume with intent, if we seek ethical and sustainable practices, and if we bring into our homes furnishings that inspire and soothe us, then our homes can truly be transformative in our lives. They support us in being better human beings."

It is with this ethos that Staprans Design approached creating this special home - a home that brings the outdoors in, energizes your senses and soothes your soul with its meticulously executed design. The Ridgeview House feels in the woods and off the grid when in reality it sits in the heart of Silicon Valley. It is a sanctuary in nature – a comfortable, quiet refuge from our hectic daily lives.
