City Bagh (Garden House)

The design inspiration stems from a minimalistic approach characterized by subdued tones, yet exudes an exaggerated garden ambiance, that encapsulates the essence of dwelling within a garden rather than a garden within a living space.

Following her wedding, Sapna Tapuriah, architect and founder of Sapscapes, embarked on an endeavour alongside her husband and in-laws—a voyage to materialize their cherished vision of a dream home. Navigating the preferences of a newly formed family that leaned towards the comfort of indoor living, Sapna brought the outdoors within the confines of their abode. She breathed life into every corner, infusing a harmonious touch of nature that not only met their practical requirements but also nurtured and fortified their familial bonds. Thus emerged "City Bagh," a testament to their shared aspirations, where the principles of aesthetics, functionality, and heartfelt collaboration harmoniously converge.

A unique and exceptional feature of this project is the incorporation of an extraordinary indoor garden within the living room—an element rarely seen in the bustling city of Mumbai. Sapna’s profound love for plants, shared by her family, served as a catalyst for the creation of this enchanting zen-like oasis, which gracefully suspends time the moment one steps into this mesmerizing retreat. The seamless integration of lush greenery with contemporary furniture fosters a captivating and harmonious atmosphere, providing a personal sanctuary within the heart of the city.

What made this project particularly exciting was the prospect it presented to reimagine the space from a blank canvas. Sapscapes seized this opportunity to its fullest, meticulously reorienting walls, strategically transforming bathroom spaces, and even relocating the staircase block. By employing innovative solutions, such as transparent walls, the design team achieved the remarkable feat of infusing light into previously dim areas, establishing a sense of openness and connection throughout the home.

Overall, a delicate equilibrium was maintained between the use of light colours and the abundance of natural light. The soft colour palette employed harmoniously interacts with the ample natural light that bathes the apartment, instilling a profound sense of tranquillity and airiness. This thoughtful selection not only enhances the aesthetic allure but also evokes the ambience of a serene bungalow, transporting you away from the hustle and bustle of the urban landscape.
