From BoxOffice

BoxOffice 8.0 was designed as sanctuary workspace - a home office, away from home. As a design experiment, the challenge was three-fold; to create a private workspace, separate from the main residence; make it small enough so that it could be delivered quickly and without the red tape of building permits; and offer an easy one-stop-shop approach to choosing options and finishes.

The prototype of BoxOffice was the brainchild of designer Rick Whitfield. It was the amalgamation of his work in building design, residential developments, and Art Direction for film and television that came together to offer a unique take on the concept. although the idea of a "backyard shed" was nothing new, Rick envisioned BoxOffice as a product, rather than a construction project in your backyard. An idea that had been percolating for many years was pulled off the shelf when the Covid-19 pandemic stopped the film industry in its tracks. The Work From Home mantra was now in the forefront of professionals everywhere.

BoxOffice utilizes custom SIPS wall panels to allow for quick site assembly, or fully completed units for delivery by crane. The buildings are prefabricated indoors, allowing for quality control and much reduced waste in building materials. Drawing from the film tricks of "fooling the eye", traditional cladding is replaced with a printed vinyl surface. The aesthetic is only limited to what you can print. The prototype uses a photo-realistic image of wood siding, but any look is possible; Stone, cork, corporate branding, or even your child's artwork!

At 64 square feet, every cubic inch of space was carefully considered. Rick makes the point that, "If you try and furnish a space this small with conventional furniture, you'll be very disappointed, and maybe even get trapped inside!". The windows are a key to creating the feeling of space, adding copious amounts of natural light. The shallow cabinetry and desk, felt-tiled ceiling, and automated climate control are also factors in a very comfortable and workable space.
